Focus on Foyer

ENTRANCE FOYER DECOR

Entrance Foyer is the first space of the house that welcomes you and your guests as soon as you step through the front door. It is the place where first impression is made. That is why it is very important to have a well-designed Entrance Foyer.

Entrance Foyer should be designed in such a way that it gives a sophisticated coziness. Decor of the foyer should compliment the decor of other areas it is linked to. Delicate match of different materials and right combination of colors enrich visual impression of the foyer. Chromatic light integrated with warm colors creates a welcoming feel.

Colors and Textures

Colors used in the entrance foyer should suit the character of the home.  Pastel or softer colors make small foyers look grand while darker shades make big foyers look warm and cozy. Textured, glazed or marbleized walls are an excellent choice. Wallpapers extend visual impression of the space and make the place look stunning. Stripes are great for adding volume and height.

Furniture

Main wall of the foyer (preferably the wall directly facing you as you walk through the door) should be secured for a mural, console, or an over-sized decorative wall bracket. This is the center of attraction. Using chest or console is an excellent choice. If you don’t prefer shoes to be taken inside the house, accommodate shoe rack in the foyer area along with console or have shoe rack cum console. Bench or a small chair is not only aesthetically pleasing but functional as well, serving as a place for removing shoes or simply a resting place for the visitor. It also serves as a temporary place for packages or anything you need to put down as you come through the door.

Accessories

The top of the console can be used to display sculptures, lamps, candles etc. It can also be accessorized with small collection of boxes or any other collection. A plant stand made of wood, wicker or iron with a luscious green fern gives a gracious look. Adding a mirror on the wall boosts the illusion of space. Paintings and fine prints bring life to the space. Life-size statue takes on a luxurious appearance in the foyer.

Lighting

Right use of ambient and accent lighting can make the place look highly impressive. Ambient lighting can be accomplished with the use of chandeliers or pendant lights adding charm to the space. Accent lighting adds drama to the space by creating visual interest. It can be accomplished by cove light, focus light, floor lamps and table lamps etc. highlighting the texture on the wall and drawing the eye to sculptures, paintings, and other accessories.
